First Quiz Night Tournament:

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) organized a quiz night on December 20, 2006 in West Halls’ Common Room.

Over 22 competitors formed six teams, named “TNT, Fonz, Winners, 15, Abu Ghazaliz and Teamless.” The teams first answered 53 general knowledge questions in different academic fields. An overhead projector with a PowerPoint slide show was used to present the questions to the competing teams. The questions ranged from easy to hard, some with multiple choice and others without multiple choice. They included Arabic literature, American movies, books, politics, singers, economics, medicine and various other topics that challenged each team according to the students’ majors.

Questions related to AUB included President Waterbury’s office location (College Hall, 5th floor), when College Hall was destroyed (1991) and rebuilt (1999), what Fisk Hall was in the past (the men’s dorms) and what the only tree of its kind in the Middle East found in AUB is (Banyan).

Several breaks were given for competitors to have refreshments while waiting for the next set of questions and for the correction of answers. Team “TNT” won by getting 40 correct answers out of 53 and then the team members Tarek Tutunji, Nabil Abdo, Michel Neuwirth and Ramzi Tawil competed against each other. Nabil Abdo won by scoring four correct answers out of 10 and received a $50 certificate from Virgin Mega Store.

Tickets to enter the competition were sold for LL 3000 on a stand in front of West Hall.
